American actress, singer Doris Day passed away

Iconic Hollywood actress Doris Day passed away. She was 97. The name of Doris Day is no allien for any cine lovers across the world. Since decades names like Jullie Andrews, Audrey Hepburn, DorisDay have been dominating the hearts of millions. With the demise of Day, an era of the black and white cinema has come to an end.

It was due to the love for animals, Day laid the foundation of a non-profit organisation Doris Day Animal Foundation, with an aim to look after and help the hapless animals across America.

Doris Day began her career with singing and gradually turned into acting. Her first hit recording was ‘Sentimental Journey’ (1945). Some of her memorable films are ‘Calamity Jane’, ‘Pillow Talk’, Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be), Secret Love to name a few.

Her career on big screen ended in 1968 with ‘Six You Get Eggroll’, she moved to the small screen and hosted ‘The Doris Day Show’ which ran for five-years. She was conferred with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004.

She was married four times, to musicians Al Jorden (1941-43) and George Weidler (1946-49), agent and producer Melcher (1951-68) and restaurateur Barry Comden (1976-81). However, she had only one child with her first husband, record producer Terry Melcher, who died in 2004.
